讲故事的动物

萨尔曼·鲁西迪（Salman Rushdie）：

我一生都在讲故事。从儿时我就了解到，故事是理解世界最好的方式。通过阅读故事，我可以成为宇航员、间谍，甚至世界之王。长大后，我想“穿过”纸页另一边，讲述我喜欢的故事。我知道讲故事是人类基本的天性。我们是世界上唯一给自己讲故事，来理解我们是怎样一种生物的造物。我们自己就是故事。我们有开端，中间情节，结局。我们是讲故事的动物。我也是讲故事的动物。希望你喜欢我的故事。

Storytelling has been my life. I learned as a child that stories were the best way to understand the world. I could be an astronaut, or a spy, or king of the world, by reading about them. When I grow up, I wanted, so to speak, to pass through the page and start telling the kind of stories I wanted to read. I understood too that storytelling is an essential part of human nature. We're the only creatures on earth who tell ourselves stories to understand the kind of creatures we are. We ourselves are stories. We have beginings, middles and endings. We are the storytelling animals. I'm a storytelling animal. And I hope you like my story.
